The Faculty of Economics provided an overseas training program titled “SDGs Special Research (Development Economies): Learn the Current Status of Economic Development in Myanmar” as part of its regular course from February 17 to 24, 2018.

The training program was provided in Myanmar, which is called “Asia’s last frontier.” Under the theme of “Is Sustainable Economic Growth Possible?,” six students who participated in the program learned about the current economic status of a developing country and the changes in people’s daily lives associated with rapid economic development, seeing the country with their own eyes.

These students learned about Myanmar’s economy on-site from an instructor at Yangon University of Economics and mainly discussed the comparison with Japan’s economy. At Thanlyin Technological University, they interacted with local students and had a lively exchange of views, while discussing the content of their daily research. They also visited the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, where many Japanese companies have expanded their business, Japanese companies such as Kamigumi Co., Ltd., and the construction site of the Thilawa ODA Terminal, and so directly experienced the rapidly changing economic conditions in Myanmar.
