On May 14, the recipients of the "Okayama University SDGs Promotion Award 2024" presented their initiatives at the University-Wide Council. This award recognizes groups in four categories: "Education," "Research," "Other Contributions to the Workplace," and "Student Groups," based on applications or nominations. On this occasion, the student group Medokoton , which received the Excellence Award in the "Student Groups" category, was honored.
Medokoton is an organization mainly composed of students from the Okayama University Medical School. The group operates events such as "Medcafé," with the aim of encouraging young people in Okayama to raise awareness of their own health and to deepen their understanding of healthcare. "Medcafé" has been held five times so far, each with a different theme, such as "Let’s Think About Anemia" and "Alcohol Patch Test."
During the presentation, KITAYAMA Mayuko (6th year, Medical School ) and MITANI Shunei (4th year, Medical School) took the stage to share their activities and the background of the group’s establishment. Ms. Kitayama said, "When I was a junior and senior high school student, I sometimes struggled with health problems but could not consult with those around me. Now that I am a medical student, I would like to provide medical information from a standpoint closer to young people, and help junior and senior high school students improve their knowledge and awareness of health."
President NASU Yasutomo expressed his expectations for the group’s future, stating, "I hope that you will continue this activity and develop it into an even larger initiative."
