The Recipients of the Honda Foundation's ‘Y-E-S (Young Engineer and Scientist's) Award’ Visit Okayama University!

On January 20 and 21, 13 recipients of the Honda Foundation’s(*1) Y-E-S (Young Engineer and Scientist's) Award(*2) visited Japan for a training program aimed at deepening their knowledge of Japanese science and technology. As part of the program, they visited Okayama University.

On January 20, the group participated in a study abroad briefing at the Okayama Visionary Commons, visited the Nakashima Propeller Co., Ltd. and Teijin Nakashima Medical Co., Ltd. factories in Joto, and took part in a networking event with university officials, including President NASU Yasutomo. During the study abroad briefing, Okayama University international students shared their experiences and explained the appeal of studying in Japan. The awardees were very engaged, asking numerous questions, particularly regarding research labs and internship opportunities. International students from the same countries as the awardees also participated in the factory tour and the networking event, providing a valuable opportunity for the students to interact with each other and deepen their clearer image of studying in Japan.

On January 21, Vice President KANO Mitsunobu (SDGs, Diversity & Inclusion) gave a mock lecture. He encouraged the awardees by saying, "Experience things for yourself, ask questions, and use those questions as your driving force." He emphasized, "If you hide your questions inside, you'll forget them quickly. But if you voice them, you may remember them for the rest of your life. Please feel free to ask questions." The awardees responded with a wide range of inquiries, including questions about the lecture content and how to develop simple curiosity-driven questions into research topics.

Okayama University will continue to widely promote its appeal both domestically and internationally, aiming to encourage more students to apply and study here, as well as to expand further human and academic exchanges.
