A Roundtable Discussion with President Nasu and International Students at L-café
On December 20, 2024, a roundtable discussion was held at L-café on the Tsushima campus, where President NASU Yasutomo engaged in conversation with about 40 students, including international students. The discussion was conducted in English, allowing participants to exchange opinions directly with the president.
At the beginning of the session, President Nasu shared the philosophy of the university, his own study abroad experiences, and the lessons he learned throughout his career. He also introduced his guiding belief, based on the teachings of Confucius (the Analects), providing concrete examples that captured the participants’ attention as they listened attentively.
International students actively shared their reasons for choosing Okayama University as their study destination and their satisfaction with the international learning environment. Elena Hezer, a student from the University of Bordeaux who is on a one-year exchange program at the School of Letters with her guide dog, commented, “I wanted to study in Japan, but it was difficult to find a university that accepts visually impaired students. I am very grateful that Okayama University welcomed me.”
Through this roundtable, the participating students seemed to have taken President Nasu's encouraging message to heart, and were motivated to continue their studies.
The event concluded with a sign language dance performed by all participants, led by SDGs Ambassador Copain, in a friendly atmosphere.
