Vice President YOKOI Atsufumi participated as a panelist at the UNESCO-IESALC Meeting on Universities and Sustainability Management

From October 2 to 4, Prof. YOKOI Atsufumi, Vice-President and UNESCO Chairholder, was invited to participate as a panelist at the UNESCO Meeting on Universities and Sustainability Management, held by UNESCO-IESALC in Madrid, Spain.

The "Sustainable University Leadership and Governance Program" was held at the Palacio de Linares, the headquarters of the Casa de América, a foundation under the jurisdiction of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the cooperation of the Casa de América. South American university presidents and international faculty and staff participated in three days of workshops and panel discussions. They shared experiences and best practices and exchanged opinions on sustainability management and higher education with global experts.

Vice President Yokoi participated in the "Roundtable: Sustainability trajectory of universities SDGs in Higher Education: commitments, terminology and progress in the processes" on the second day. Dr. Francesc Pedró, Director of the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO-IESALC), moderated the session, and Vice President Yokoi spoke with Spanish university representatives about the efforts of the UNESCO Chair at Okayama University and the promotion of projects through the newly established Global Engagement Office in direct collaboration with UN and international organizations and universities. In addition, he and Spanish university officials engaged in a lively discussion about strengthening the university's sustainability management, including organizational transformation and strategic planning, which will contribute to achieving the SDGs.
 
Okayama University aims to enhance its research, education, and social contributions by fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders and generations to create a better future for the region and the planet.
