The DS Club, Recipient of the Okayama University SDGs Promotion Award 2023, Announces the Initiatives of the 'Okayama Dream Education Initiative'

On May 15, during the university's departmental liaison meeting, presentations were made regarding the initiatives of the organizations awarded the Okayama University SDGs Promotion Award for the 2023 fiscal year. Awards were granted in four categories: "Education," "Research," "Other Workplace Contributions," and "Student Group Activities," with recipients determined through a recommendation process. Presentations for the "Student Group Activities" category were held on February 21 and for the "Other Workplace Contributions" category on April 10. Presentations for initiatives in the "Research" category are scheduled for the future.

On the day of the event, Professor NOGAMI Yasuyuki (Advisor to the DS (Data Science) Club) of the Faculty of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology, and KUMAGAI Sou (former head of DS Club, currently a first-year doctoral student in the Graduate School of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology) represented the DS Club, presenting the "Okayama Dream Education Initiative," which received an award for excellence in the "Education" category.

The "Okayama Dream Education Initiative" is an extracurricular activity conducted in collaboration between Okayama University and the Okayama Prefectural Board of Education, aimed at providing a platform for the proactive learning of the next generation of university and high school students. Through this initiative, team formation does not consider school or grade levels, thereby encouraging interaction across schools and grades. Additionally, university students engage with high school students not as mentors but as participants, fostering close interactions and allowing high school students to envision their near future more closely. Mr. Kumagai said, "I believe that by making high school students aspire to be 'someone from XX School at XX University' rather than just 'a student from Okayama University,' it can contribute to their career formation."

President NASU Yasutomo expressed his vision, saying, "We want to expand the framework within the university to support excellent student initiatives like this one."
