Facility maintenance for sustainable energy saving

Objectives

Upon required global warming prevention, we are aiming to reduce energy consumption by more than 1% every year. As one of activities for that goal, since 2016, we have established an environmental levy system to fund maintenance of facilities with energy efficiency, and then, since 2017, we have carried out works by using the resource. As a result of this system, we have been able to facilitate further elevation of awareness of electricity and water saving across our campus.

Activities Overview

Each department pays an environmental surtax calculated by putting a constant unit price on the quantities of consumed electric power, water, and gases, and then we carry out energy-saving repair works by using the resource and additional another fund of university. For example, we expect that we will achieve reduction of CO2 about 58 tons and that of utility cost approximately 2.3 million yen every year by having remodeled the air conditioning units and lighting equipment at Center for Information Technology and Management and other six facilities in 2021. In 2022, we are planning to install the lighting equipment to LED lighting at Basic Medical Science Building. In the long term, we can carry out energy-saving repair works more systematically for every department. As the final results, throughout our campus, we expect advancement of our university toward a sustainable campus with a substantial decrease of environmental load by a positive cycle of saving cost as well as energy.
