SDGs Initiatives in Senior High School of Special Needs with Intellectual Disabilities

Objectives and Activities

In our Senior High school, students with disabilities are learning about the SDGs and engaging in practical activities, mainly in their daily life unit study time, in order to develop the qualities and abilities that will enable them to take an interest in various social issues and proactively work toward a sustainable society.
In the class practice, the unit was structured so that students would start with matters related to familiar people and places and gradually become aware of the SDGs as a whole society, so that they would become interested in the SDGs. In addition, students were encouraged to work independently by understanding the significance of working toward the achievement of the SDGs and the content of each goal, discussing and researching with their friends the activities they can do for the goals they are interested in, thinking about them, putting them into practice, and presenting their ideas in a poster.

Expected Effects

Students are expected to have an interest in and awareness of various social issues, and to develop the qualities and abilities to work proactively toward the realization of a sustainable society while interacting with others.
