Cement emits a large amount of CO2 during manufacturing. Steel also emits a large amount of CO2 during manufacturing, and slag is also generated as a by-product. Cement and steel, which are the main construction materials, are materials with a large environmental load.
 

Purpose of the activity


The steel slag hydrated solidified body is a solidified body that can replace ordinary concrete using steelmaking slag as the aggregate, using blast furnace slag fine powder as the main binder. We will develop technology to effectively utilize steel slag hydrated solidified material as a construction material in the same way as general concrete.
 

Outline of activity


It is known that steel slag hydrated solidified material has lower freeze-thaw resistance than ordinary concrete, and its usable area is limited to warm areas, so improvement is required. In this research and development, we will show the cause of the inferior freeze-thaw resistance of steel slag hydrated solidified material and the method of improving the freeze-thaw resistance.
 

Expected effect


It is applied to riverbed consolidation blocks and coastal wave-dissipating blocks. Steel slag hydrated solidified material can be manufactured without using cement, and CO2 emissions can be reduced by 43% compared to ordinary concrete. In addition, since recycled materials can be used for all raw materials, conservation of natural resources is expected.
