Collaborative regional development activities through the science of agriculture by the Student Association of the Faculty of Agriculture, Okayama University

The official name of the Student Association of the Faculty of Agriculture is the Alumni Association Campus Branch of the Faculty of Agriculture, Okayama University “Student Association of the Faculty of Agriculture.” As main members, students who joined the alumni association at the time of enrollment, together with faculty members of the Faculty of Agriculture, are carrying out activities to introduce the SDGs-oriented education and research of the Faculty of Agriculture to undergraduate students, parents, and local residents. The activities of the Student Association are aimed at enriching student life and promoting friendship among students with the spirit of student autonomy, as well as contributing to regional development activities by publicizing the results of education and research of the Faculty of Agriculture, which is involved in many of the SDGs, to local residents. One of the main activities of the Student Association is the Harvest Festival. The Harvest Festival is a gathering event unique to the Faculty of Agriculture that involves not only students but also faculty members and local residents, under the theme of "Food and Collaborative Regional Development.” This festival provides an opportunity for students and faculty members to interact with a wide range of local residents, from children to elderly people, and at the same time, an opportunity for local residents to gain a better understanding of the SDGs-oriented education of the Faculty of Agriculture. In the past two years, all major events welcoming local residents as in the past were not able to be held; however, several events for first- and second-year students of the Faculty of Agriculture were held, including a poster exhibition introducing the research activities of all research units in the Faculty of Agriculture; a student life counseling session for first-year students who are feeling anxious about their student life due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and a gathering program for first- and second-year students. It is expected that other events organized by the Student Association will provide a better student life and a better learning environment for students belonging to the Faculty of Agriculture and promote regional collaborative development.
