LCI development for clothing life

Clothing is a resource. Partly due to fast fashion, which is low in cost and easy to use, clothes are currently excessively supplied and excessively owned. To achieve sustainable fashion and ethical fashion that are friendly to people and the environment, it is desirable that consumers should take the initiative in building a sustainable clothing lifestyle. Although there are life cycle assessment (LCA) methods that can be used by companies (manufacturers), there is no LCA method for consumers. Therefore, I have developed a life cycle inventory (LCI) sheet that enables consumers to objectively quantify and evaluate the environmental impact and energy consumption associated with their clothing life (acquisition, wearing, management and disposal of clothes). At present, I am using this sheet for students who are taking courses related to clothing science at our university to conduct active learning activities for quantifying their clothing life, clarifying issues and solving them. Since they can understand their clothing life objectively and numerically, they can clarify where a considerable burden is placed in their clothing life and what the problems are. It is expected to be useful for decision-making for reviewing clothing behavior and lifestyle.
