Objectives and activities

   The UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme, which was adopted at the 26th General Conference of UNESCO in 1992, is intended to improve educational and research capabilities through international exchange and the sharing of knowledge at higher education institutions. As of April 2019, 756 (9 in Japan) UNESCO Chairs and 45 (2 in Japan) UNITWIN Networks were established worldwide. The UNESCO Chair at Okayama University was approved by UNESCO in April 2007 and has been carrying out activities in cooperation with educational and research institutes and government organizations in and outside Japan for the purpose of promoting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at higher education institutions.
   In 2019, renewal for four years until 2023 was approved, and Senior Vice President YOKOI Atsufumi was appointed as the second Chair Holder.

Goals and Current activities

1. Foster experts who will contribute to creating a   sustainable society on a global level.
2. Foster experts who will get engaged in the activity to   create a sustainable society in local level.
3. Reorient the curriculum of Okayama University to       contribute to building a sustainable society.
4. Undertake practical education to transfer knowledge and technology through inter-university cooperation.
