Fostering internationally minded healthcare professionals by collaboration between high school and university

Providing education responding to globalization and creating an environment for this are urgent issues, and Okayama University must fulfill this mission as an SGU. Also, in medical settings, collaboration among different occupational categories is absolutely necessary, and development of human resources with communication skills and research ability is required.
Since academic year 2016, at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Okayama University Medical School, in “Team Medical Practice,” a compulsory subject for first-year students, an overseas team has been formed to carry out exchange activities with overseas medical students in three areas in Asia: two in Taiwan (Taipei and Gaoxiong) and one in Korea (Pusan).
As part of the collaboration between the high school and the university, since academic year 2019, high school students interested in medicine and international exchange and Okayama University students have carried out international exchange activities with local students at overseas medical universities as a joint program of “Team Medical Practice.”
By having high school students experience medical learning in overseas countries, we aim to further foster their wish to work in the medical field and have them grow into internationally minded human resources.

They received lectures in English from local professors with local students and participated in hands-on ultrasound scan training at Catholic University of Pusan (Pusan, Korea).
We have concluded an inter-department or inter-university agreement with every university with which we interact, and mutual international academic and educational exchanges will be accelerated even further.
