Background

   Mosquito is a vector for important tropical diseases like malaria, viral hemorrhagic fever, and lymphatic filariasis. Therefore, mosquito control is a central means by which mosquito-borne diseases can be prevented.

Outline of the project

   Aim of this project is to establish environmentally friendly and effective mosquito-control system using mosquitocidal Cry toxins.

• Isolation and development of novel mosquitocidal toxins.
• Analysis of insecticidal mechanisms of Cry toxins.
• Improvement of insecticidal activity.
• Development of efficient screening device.

 

Expected effects

   Our project will contribute to the control of mosquito as well as mosquito-borne diseases. The use of mosquitocidal Cry toxins, which is an environmentally friendly agent, will contribute the protection of environment by reducing usage of chemical insecticides. The efficient screening device will facilitate use of biological resources.
