EUS-guided drug injection therapy for pancreatic disease

Background and Objectives

Recently, the diagnosis and treatment for pancreaticobiliary diseases using endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is making a remarkable progress.
In Okayama university hospital, we launched the clinical research to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of EUS-guided drug injection therapy for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET) (UMIN:000018843). The standard treatment for PNET is surgery, however, the morbidity of surgery is still high.  EUS-guided therapy is a less invasive therapy for pancreatic disease, and it may allow the patient to avoid the surgery. Moreover, it is possible to reduce the risk of diabetes after pancreatic surgery.

Expected effects

We expect that EUS-guided treatment will become common in the future. The development of new equipment for EUS-guided injection therapy is desired. Long-term results of EUS-guided therapy is also insufficient. We should observe carefully after the treatment.
