Research and Education of the Research Institute for the Dynamics of Civilizations

Objectives

   The problems of environmental destruction, war, discrimination, poverty, etc. facing modern society have arisen in the process of development of "civilization" in human society during the past 10,000 years. The mechanism of civilization dynamics stems from the interaction between human specific properties and the environment. Understanding this is important for forming an intellectual foundation that promotes the achievement of SDGs. Based on this recognition, the Institute will promote of transfer of research results to form a sustainable, safe and resilient society in the future.

Activity

   The Institute analyzes human history in the long term, universal mechanism of civilization dynamics, regional and historical factors of development and resilience against environmental changes. The Institute holds symposia and promotes research projects on civilization dynamics, aiming to create a base for a new horizon of research and education.

Future plans

  • Further activation of cross-disciplinary research. Research on changes in the environment surrounding humanity and responses to natural disasters. Research on the formation and maintenance of the local communities.
Elucidation of civilization dynamics through multilateral analysis of the interrelationships of environmental change, material culture, mental culture and demographic dynamics.
