Frontier Scientists: the open-minded graduates with a broad view and high degree of professionalism
The Frontier Program (Frontier Scientist Special Course) in the Faculty of Science at Okayama University is an educational program designed to foster scientists who have a broad view and deep expertise, understand the environment in which we live from multiple perspectives, support sustainable growth, and create human jobs.
The students selected from among students in the Faculty of Science are expected to acquire a wide range of natural science knowledge and various abilities required of scientists through lectures original to the Program, such as “Frontier Scientist Literacy” and “Advanced Science Practice,” in addition to the curriculum of their own department.
One of the main features of the Program is “Advanced Project Research,” which allows the students taking the Program to conduct “advanced” research at the level of fourth-year students and graduate students from an early stage. Students in the program, with the advice of their academic advisor, formulate a research plan in a field of their interest and conduct “advanced” research.
The “advanced research” conducted so far has achieved excellent results, winning many prizes in the Intercollegiate Scientific Competition organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
