Training Students to Have a Perspective of Global Justice

Background

Reportedly, about 896 million people live on earth below the poverty line of $ 1.9 per day, amounting to 12.7% in the population ratio, in 2012. On the other hand, the richest 20% people in the world own 80% of the world’s total income, and the assets of richest 200 people are accounted for 41% of the world's population total annual income in 2010.

Goal

The purpose is to make law students learn about the current state of global poverty and inequality and have a perspective of global justice. For this purpose, I offer ‘Law and Justice ab’ as one of the core courses which they must choose to take in Public Law and Policy track and as one of the courses which they can take optionally in other tracks at Faculty of Law.

Summery

In the section of Global Justice, students are expected to know the current state of global poverty and inequality, the efforts of the Japanese government, various international organizations, NGOs, NPOs, etc., and the latest approaches of global justice to deal with these problems.

Predicted Effects

Students will be able to use their knowledge of the global poverty state and theoretical approaches for volunteering and job hunting. Through these activities, they are expected to become a ‘glocal’ or inter-local human resources who can have a global perspective and cooperate across borders and regions while working for their local government office or companies.
