Climate system research mainly for East Asia and its related interdisciplinary lesson study on climate and cultural understanding for promoting the teacher education on ESD

Climate Education is an important part of the ESD activities, relating to the studies on Environment, Disaster prevention, Climate variability, and Cultural Understanding as a background of the cultural generation.  Besides, it could contribute greatly to promoting the “Fundamental ESD Literacy”, such as thinking of various complex relations or diversity, and so on, among the ESD targets, including the understanding of “Heterogeneous others”.
By the way, the climate around Japan in East Asia, affected greatly by the Asian Monsoon system, shows great variety of the seasonal cycle and “seasonal feeling” with transition of the dominant atmospheric circulation patterns from month to month.
As such, we are investigating multi-scale climate systems and their variability in East Asia including roles of the detailed seasonal cycles. Furthermore, by integrating such research results and seasonal feeling expressed in the music works, and so on, we are developing interdisciplinary lesson plans on the climate and cultural understanding education for promoting the teacher education on ESD.

A part of our interdisciplinary studies has been summarized in a  book in March 2019:
"Climate and music (Cultural understanding and ESD spreading from the "Doors of Song")" by Haruko Kato and Kuranoshin Kato (from Kyodo Shuppan), although written in Japanese.
