Understanding and engineering yeast cell

Background

Thanks to the success of the molecular biology in the 20th century, huge amount of knowledge about the cell have accumulated. The 21th century will be the age of ultimate understanding of the cell as well as engineering the cell.

Objectives

We consider “yeast” as a model eukaryotic dell and useful microorganisms, and aim to understand everything about yeast and engineer their functions.

Our activity

We are trying to reveal characteristics of proteins toxic when overproduced in yeast cell  to understand the physiology of diseases associated with protein overproduction and engineer yeast cell to produce useful proteins.

Expected outcome

The ultimate understanding of the cell is one the goal of biology, which leads to the control of diseases or mass productions of useful materials.
