Development of Plastic Recycling System -Preparation of Aramide by Upcycle of PET-

Background and Objectives

Plastics are useful materials in our daily life, and we use a lot of amount of them. However, waste plastics begin to destroy the environments and so many serious issues related plastics arise recently including microplastic issue, recycling, waste management and so on. In order to establish the resource recycling society and stop the global warning, we should reconsider the use  and management of plastics.
In our research group, preparation of aramide from the waste PET as an upcycling system. PET are widely used as beverage bottles, fibers, films  and so on. Aramide is a representative of high-performance plastics. In this research, high added value aramide was successfully prepared from PET and aromatic diamine as crystals by using reaction-induced crystallization technique we developed. By produced ethylene glycol is completely recovered and this system is high atom efficiency. This upcycle system contributes to solve the waste plastic issue, bringing about the establishment of resource recycling society and depletion the global warming.
