Outpatient Clinic Initiatives for Post-COVID

Outpatient Clinic for COVID-19 Aftercare

Social Background

In COVID-19, some patients suffer not only acute symptoms but also sequelae after the illness.
Its symptoms are often general malaise, headache, sleep disturbances, and taste and smell disorders.
There is a lot of media coverage, which reflects the high social interest and patient demand.

Activities and Objectives

In February 2021, we pioneered the establishment of the "Outpatient Clinic for COVID-19 Aftercare" at Okayama University Hospital (the second university hospital in Japan to do so), a specialized outpatient clinic to examine patients with such symptoms.
Taking advantage of the characteristics of the Department of General Medicine, we provide holistic care that takes into account both the physical examination and the psychological and social aspects of the patient.

Outpatient Clinic for Vaccine Side Effects

Social Background

Vaccination against COVID-19 began in Japan in February 2021.
In addition to symptoms such as pain, swelling, fever, lethargy, and headache after vaccination, rare side effects such as facial paralysis, including difficulty in seeing, have also been reported.

Activities and Objectives

We have established an "Outpatient Clinic for Vaccine Side Effects" to provide specialized consultation for such a wide variety of side effects.

◎This initiative received the President Award for Excellence in the FY2021 Okayama University SDGs Promotion Award.
