What is the current status of medical activities and diseases?

Overview and Objectives

We aim to realize sustainable and efficient healthcare in Society 5.0. Therefore, we would like to examine and elucidate the current status of medical activities and trends in diseases by analyzing medical big data. We believe the findings will contribute to future medical care. For this purpose, we analyze various data sources such as healthcare claims data and adverse drug event data using epidemiological methods.
So far, we have elucidated the characteristics of patients who are vulnerable to adverse effects with anticancer drugs by drug repositioning (JAMA Oncol. 2019). We have reported more reliable evidence by integrating past research using the systematic review method (Sci Rep. 2017). Also, by analyzing healthcare claims data, trends in multi-prescriptions that are problematic in the elderly (J Am Geriatr Soc. 2018), trends in antibiotic usage for the common cold that could lead to the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria (Fam Pract. 2018) were revealed. Regarding changes in disease structure, we have reported the details of epidemic tuberculosis trends in Japan (Epidemiol Infect. 2018).
We strive, through these research, to contribute to the promotion of the SDGs and the realization of Society 5.0 by disseminating evidence from a new perspective by utilizing diverse healthcare data. In the future, we will continue to elucidate international medical activities and trends of disease burdens. Therefore, we will provide more accurate information that can be helpful to formulate policies to promote the SDGs.
