Biocompatible soft tissue adhesives

In developing countries, many patients requiring plastic surgery are unable to have operations because of underdeveloped infrastructure and medical technology, and lack of medical personnel and knowledge.
Soft tissue adhesives are developed as a substitute for sutures that require experienced skill, and have a potential for first aid and easy operation. However, soft tissue adhesives currently in use have some lacks to be improved in biocompatibility and adhesion strength.
This activity contributes to securing the healthy life of people through the development of a novel soft tissue adhesives with excellent biocompatibility and adhesiveness.
Furthermore, the results obtained from this activity will provide new technology that can be applied to various fields. For example, it is expected to increase the efficiency of grafting technology using junctional adhesion of different types of plants, which will supply high-quality and low-priced crops, and further enable new technology transfer from Japan to overseas.
