Biobank as a infrastructure to support research & development of new medicine

Background

Developing new drugs becomes increasingly hard to achieve. Establishing new strategies and framework are essential to be implemented to overcome this difficulty.
To promote innovation in medicine, we have established a sustainable research infrastructure aiming at supplying human samples (blood, tissue, urine, ...) to various researchers, who need biological samples in their research and development.

Activities

Okayama University Hospital Biobank (Okadai Biobank) was established for collecting human samples from patients in our hospital, storing them, and distributing them on demand from  researchers inside and outside our hospital under ethical approval.

Outcome

Many researchers have difficulties in obtaining human samples. Infrastructures, managing human samples not only safely but also ethically, will promote research and development in the field of biomedical science both in academia and in industries.
