Cultivating human resources to bridge different fields and cultures through the multilingual/inter-university seminars

Social background

Many problems in the modern society are too complicated to find easy solutions. Collaborations of different sectors of people are considered as a key. It is thus necessary to bring up human resources who are tolerant to social diversity and have skills to bridge different cultures and specialized fields.

Objectives

For the third-year students in our laboratory and beyond, the project first provides research training about social measures to build sustainable societies (ex. revitalization of the society, environmental conservation, the community-based welfare). Based on the result of the training, then I urge them to join following two seminars, 1) “Inter-university seminars" to discuss with students in other universities and faculties, and 2) “Multilingual seminars" to discuss with foreign students.

Future plan and expected results

I have already arranged “Inter-university seminars" with several universities (Laboratories in Faculty of economics and Faculty of Agriculture) for several years, which had intellectually stimulated many students. The project tries to expand its scope to multilingual and cultural situations, and provide the students to experience discussions in more diversified social settings. Through these activities I expect the project can provide skills for “accommodations (acknowledging, accepting and synthesizing different values in the society)” in order to cultivate human resources to bridge different professional fields and cultures.
