Iron-Oxide Solar Cell Research Association

Background

  Most of the energy demands for human civilization is supplied from solar energy, even the fossil fuel has been an accumulated materials of solar energies in ancient time. The total design on the energy circulation for sustainable society on earth should involve the effective solar energy ecosystem without the usage of fossil fuels. Our research on the low cost solar-cell development has been driven by such motivation. Also the energy resources on the earth are maldistributed globally, that originates the regional differences of wealth and economy, and may cause gapped welfare and even trigger regional disputes. Then the low cost solar cell will contribute on the development of the peaceful sustainable society.

Objectives

    Our targeted solar cell uses an ubiquitous material, iron oxide, and is expected to work with multi-career generation phenomena in correlated electron system by single photon excitation. So the cell device will show very low cost. In order to realize such cell device, we have organized an iron solar cell research association with several private companies.

Charge ordered thin film of YbFe2O4 at 300K was firstly synthesized.
