Introduction to the SDGs:Guidance for 1st year Global Jinzai Students

Mission

  The Academic Class 2 (AC2)  course  emphasizes production English skills (writing and speaking). This 4 week unit benefits students from all department by introducing the SDGs, their history and facilitates active learning by having the student create an action plan to promote awareness of the SDGs. This will be the first step for the Okayama University SDG curriculum for students who will then apply this knowledge to departmental goals of promoting and participating in the SDGs. In addition, this class will give Global Jinzai students the background information to participate internationally  when studying abroad and international internships. 

Action Plan

  During this unit, first, students will preview the academic content by  building academic listening and reading by using  authentic materials concerning the transition of the Millennium goals to the SDGs and an overview of each goal by the head of the United Nations.  Then,  discussion will emphasize the creation of the SDGs and keywords/ concepts will be introduced. The learning goal will be the use of abstract concepts leading to concrete ideas. Finally, group discussions and collaborative planning will end the unit by creating an awareness campaign proposal along with a poster  for a specific SDG that will be important to Okayama University.

Learner Outcomes

   Students will develop background knowledge of the SDGs. Learn to recognize abstract concepts synthesized with concrete ideas. Acquire skills to  create action plan proposals and present ideas clearly.
